MYSTERY PARTIALLY SOLVED THE WOODPECKER TAPPING AT CITY HALL'S DOOR TO SOUND THE ALARM WAS, IN FACT, A PROGRAMMER

Hunedoara, May 21, 2025 – For days on end, the quiet mornings in Hunedoara were broken by a persistent and mysterious noise: a repeated, rhythmic knocking at the main door of City Hall. Residents, initially amused, then slightly exasperated, began to joke about an unusually determined woodpecker, or even a signal from another dimension. The mystery seemed unsolvable, until today.
To everyone’s surprise, the “woodpecker” was unmasked. It wasn’t an ingenious bird, but an improvised audible warning system created by a frustrated local programmer.
Mr. Andrei Ionescu, a 34-year-old software developer, admitted he was behind the noises. The reason? A series of unanswered emails sent to City Hall. “I tried all official channels. I sent complaints, I called, I wrote endless emails about a minor infrastructure problem in my neighborhood that simply wasn’t getting resolved,” Ionescu explained, visibly irritated. “For days on end, no sign of life, no response, nothing. I was at my wit’s end.”
In desperation, the programmer resorted to more… noisy methods. He designed a small device, likely an electronically controlled solenoid, capable of rhythmically tapping on the City Hall’s entrance door, perfectly mimicking the sound of a persistent woodpecker. The system was programmed to activate at fixed times in the morning to ensure maximum impact.
“I just wanted to get their attention. To let someone know that there are people waiting for an answer, even for small problems. And not to ignore me,” Ionescu added.
Local authorities confirmed the discovery of the device but declined to comment further on actions against the programmer. A City Hall spokesperson merely stated that “the situation will be analyzed, and measures will be taken to improve communication with citizens.”
